About this property

Welcome to Tunnel Mountain Resort

Tunnel Mountain Resort offers a blend of relaxed hotel rooms and cabins set within Banff National Park, just off the Trans-Canada Highway. Accommodations come equipped with kitchens, fireplaces, and free Wi-Fi, catering well to guests seeking a self-sufficient and comfortable stay in a rustic setting. The property is pet-friendly and family-oriented, providing kid-friendly amenities and thoughtful touches for travelers with pets.

Facilities include an indoor pool, a fitness center, free parking, and a smoke-free environment. Although there is no on-site restaurant or airport shuttle, the rooms’ in-unit kitchens and included bus passes make it convenient for guests to explore downtown Banff or prepare their own meals. The resort’s location is approximately 2 km from the Banff Park Museum and 6 km from Banff Upper Hot Springs, set slightly away from busy downtown, which some find quieter yet still accessible via a short walk, drive, or bus ride.

Guest feedback highlights the attentive and helpful front desk and housekeeping staff, with many praising the comfortable beds and cozy fireplaces. Some reviews note that while the rooms provide good value and modern conveniences, parts of the property appear dated and could benefit from updates, particularly in bathroom cleanliness. Overall experiences tend to reflect a practical choice for families or groups wanting space, pet accommodations, and proximity to nature rather than a polished luxury stay.

For visitors prioritizing outdoor activities and a functional home base with amenities like a playground and indoor pool, Tunnel Mountain Resort presents a suitable option. Those seeking a more central location or upscale décor might consider nearby hotels, but this resort offers a distinct, lodge-like atmosphere with easy access to Banff’s natural attractions.

I was very satisfied with our stay. The kitchen and fireplace were a must during the winter, and I’m so glad they were able to accommodate our requests. The front desk staff—especially Hannah—was very polite and helpful, and the housekeeping team did an excellent job keeping our room clean. Overall, it was a great experience. For future improvement, I would recommend adding a hot tub for the winter season and a steam room. Everything else was wonderful—the mountain view from our balcony was amazing. I would love to stay here again and would definitely recommend this place.

I stayed in a one-bedroom loft at Tunnel Mountain Resort and overall had a very good experience. The place feels new and modern, and the beds were comfortable. As we were traveling with a pet, they thoughtfully provided treats, a toy, a pet bed, and metal food containers in the room. We had a cat, not a dog, so we didn’t use them, but it was a very nice touch and showed they are truly pet-friendly. The only downside was the cleaning detail: I found candy wrappers behind the bedroom door, which suggests the room was not thoroughly cleaned. The resort is quiet and a good option if you don’t want to be in the middle of the main street noise in Banff. You do need a car to get around for most activities, although there is a shuttle/bus stop right in front of the hotel, which is very convenient. Overall, a comfortable, modern, and pet-friendly place.

My family stayed for 9 total nights. A high chair and pack & plays were provided which made life easier with 2 toddlers/babies. The quality of service from the front desk, house keeping, room service, etc is what makes this place great. The location and view is stunning. The actual rooms are definitely old and dated. Washrooms could have been cleaner. But I had a very pleasant stay thanks to the service from staff.

Great value for your money. We stayed in the Loft suite with 2 rooms. The kitchen had everything we needed to make supper and stay in. Super cozy with the fireplace and the beds were comfortable, plenty of pillows. Free transit rides and firewood. The pool was nice to enjoy with my kids. I would definitely stay here again.

Although the property is a bit far from downtown, transportation wasn’t a major issue since bus passes were provided at check-in. The overall room condition was decent, but there was a lingering smell of burned firewood that lasted for several days—even though I didn’t use it myself. Despite that, it was an overall acceptable place to stay.

For us Tunnel Mountain is the perfect stay. The rooms we’ve stayed in are spacious and equipped with everything you need for a short stay. And, it’s a nice they’re pet friendly as we like to bring our dog with us anytime we head to Banff. It is just out of downtown Banff, so it is slightly quieter which is nice. But getting down there is just a 10-15 minute walk, a short bus ride (which they provide passes for) or drive into town. The staff have always been friendly and accommodating to any needs we’ve had. Would highly recommend staying there if traveling with family or a small group.

We are staying in a king suite with a small kitchenette, that is just enough. The room is a good size, heater works well and the views of the mountains from our balcony are first rate! The express bus picks up right in front of the hotel and passes were included with the room. First time staying here, but not the last. The front staff are amazing, quick, polite, friendly, and extremely helpful.

Our second stay at Tunnel Mountain was a great experience. We stayed in the studio condo and it was the perfect fit for our family of 3 and our dog. However, $30 for the pet fee seems a bit expensive. Our room was clean, the kitchen was perfect and we loved the fireplace with complimentary wood. Location is decent. Would stay here again!
